There are rumors spreading today about the acquisition of Sun by IBM. While we don't know the exact conclusion yet, it would be interesting to see what would come out of it?
I don't think the biggest impact would be consolidation of server. Such would be less powerful to the current trend of integrated computing.
But probably one thing exciting might emerge eventually: IBM has the services capabilities and Sun has the cloud computing infrastructure in its arsenal: MySQL, OpenOffice, Java.
Combined, IBM+Sun might be able to provide the best engine (and later on best services) for cloud computing services and infrastructure.
Would this be the case?
We shall see as the next episode of this industrial battle and restructuring process happening to its final form.
