Web 2.0 is ready for both your work and home life! Yet there's still many to be discovered and found - Photo (cc) riggzy
THE "TODAY'S WEB" IS PROBABLY THE WEB THAT IS GETTING SOCIAL & PERSONAL
The seed of "web 2.0" rapid growth & development is probably all started when people and individuals start to use the web to share their thoughts and ideas, to link & digitize their "connectivity " and "living", and to share and post their presence across on the new interactive medium for others to discover, tag, enrich, view and further share each other.
Such "small act" eventually bringing biggest impact. It even transform the very basic nature of the web itself. It becomes a revolutionary "tsunamy" in a scale that the world have never seen before. Suddenly we found ourselves surrounded with a new "definition" and a "new understanding" of what the great web could become. Not only a great information link everywhere, but also a great people discovery medium at all time and great medium of interactivity and connectivity in ways that we never saw before.
Today we perhaps call these "Web 2.0". And we're so much fascinated and awe by it. But perhaps what we saw today still the "early formation" of the truest form and structure of what the "true web" could have become.
Under such formation, no longer the web is the medium of companies, group and corporations only; instead, it has become the vehicle of everybody.
THE "NEXT" WEB IS PERHAPS THE WEB THAT IS GOING "LESS SOCIAL" & "LESS PERSONAL" ANYMORE?
Yet as the world evolves and the new formation and "definition" of the possibility and the "next possibilities" of web 2.0 continuously evolve, we start seeing the next interesting possibilities of whereby once more the "new web" -- in the form of web 2.0 capabilities and social nature -- is soon perhaps going to enter the mainstream corporate market once more.
Isn't it fascinating? The medium that once was the medium of individuals (e.g. the era when the web was the tool of a few "researcher" around the globe), which later become adopted by corporation to become a vehicle for their communication (aka website 1.0), eventually "evolutionary" being transferred to the hand of individual again (which eventually manifested greatly in the form of web 2.0) ... and now -- as these web 2.0 start to "mature" -- the final form and formation of it might soon -- again -- enter and be part of our corporate infrastructure!
Isn't it interesting to see how our living tool (e.g. the tool that we use in our daily living activity) seems "always" eventually also become and transforming into our "working tool" (e.g. the tool that we use in our working activity). Such happens with the PC (initially it was our living tool -- part of our "hobby" and "craftmanship" activity). Later on it becomes integral part of our working activity.
Same thing seems to happen with our telephone, cars and other important stuff in ourlives.
NOBODY REALLY KNOW ...
Now, the key question is, as web 2.0 start to reach its "new" mature form. In what shape the tool and technology fits into our working environment?. Would it be in the similar form that we saw in "web 2.0" today? or would it be in the "mixed" form that is more advanced than what web 2.0 today could possibly deliver.
We don't have the answer yet. But thinking about the form and structure of the new web 2.0 capability for the enterprise would be so much important.
Some people predict that the early form of adoption could be something like this:
Truly fascinating stuff. But do we really believe that the form and structure of "web 2.0" for enterprise would simply resemble what we had in our digital living space today?. Wouldn't the new web 2.0 for enterprise itself would incorporate new capability and stuff and would uniquely differentiate the nature of web 2.0 as our great living tool, and as our great working tool?.
In the past PC world, we saw how adoption of desktop PC for business purposes giving birth to the great discovery of new form factor: the notebook PC, the PC server, the networking server, etc, which later on shapes our living space once more. Hence, not until the first initial adoption of web 2.0 in the business and enterprise setup has really become major, we are going to see the "final form" of our web 2.0 living system. As usual, the enterprise/working environment will influence the shape and form of web 2.0 that comes to its environment. And at the same time the evolution of this engine, capability and interface would eventually transform and influence our digital living space for the better as well.
THE NEW SHAPE, FORM (AND BEHAVIOR) THAT STILL YET TO BE FOUND
The final form of such "final web 2.0" capability is perhaps still yet to be found. Nobody is really sure how it would become. Yet, the fact of the matter is -- if we see and study "history" -- such form would eventually emerge.
To that context, we just have to watch carefully and perhaps shall never rigidly assuming that the "new form" of web 2.0 infrastructure for enterprise would be exactly similar to our current web 2.0 infrastructure for individual daily living activity. Because as history shows with the PC, the new form factor of "PC server" and "notebook PC" is still yet to emerge, as these individual "PC stuff" start merging and morphing from our living spaces to our working space. Same thing could happen with our web 2.0. As the tool and technology start to morph and merge into our daily working space, its truest best form is perhaps still yet to be discovered and found. Until then, we have to keep on watching, listening and adapting. And shall never assume that the current "web 2.0" form of interactivity, discovery, and link, is the "final form" of what's possible.
The best is still yet to come. And until then, perhaps we have to keep our mind consistently open.
