Looking at trends happening today, in 2008, seem computer form factor going to change to a shape and form that we never seen or imagine before.
The new MacBook Touch??
People say that Apple will soon come up with mini macbook machines. This would make portable computing on Apple great machines simple and easy.
People also say that Apple will soon come up with Tablet version of their notebook series. Having touch capabilities, such device would bring phenomenal changes on how we compute and interact with computers daily.
Overall, 2008 might mark the beginning of an era whereby we transition from mouse & keyboard based computing to a new form factor that is more intuitive, flexible and friendly.
Very soon, probably we will start experiencing and see:
- Physical keyboard being replaced with soft-intelligent-keyboard that understand the context of the user operation.
- Mouse being replaced with touch-interface.
- Thick size device being replaced with thin size devices.
- Rigid computer form-factor/ergonomics being replaced with flexible-and-friendlier ergonomics and design that makes it easier for us to use and carry our computer anytime anywhere.
Once these new form factor is getting mature and appropriately put in place, the way we interact with computers and do computing might eventually become more intuitive, more fun, more fascinating, and easier to do anytime anywhere.
With that, our digital interaction becomes simpler and better. If these happens, these would be a milestone that would become a major breakthrough of how we compute and do computing daily this year, and for the next years to come.
Here's another "future look" of how people think computing form factor would change in few years to come:
Fascinating! It's now up to the next "human imagination" to make that form factor truly useful for daily activity purposes.
