What would happen if Apple one day sell its Mac OS X outside of "Mac machines only" and into PC also ...
... would then we see a once great and exciting company named Microsoft 'gone' from existence?? -- or at least lost half of its market value?? -- or even more ??
I'm totally intrigued by this question that just suddenly pop-op out of my mindjust now. And still couldn't figure out, what would be the consequences for Microsoft if such happen?
Would Microsoft then be just an 'MS-Office' company? (Which is still huge in value, by the way).
What would Microsoft be without its dominating MS-Windows operating system on people's machine?
Seems Bill Gates really need to be back ASAP at the helm of Microsoft leadership. So far, Microsoft innovations (including the lame lauzy Vista) -- under the boastful leadership of Microsoft's current CEO -- is not only lame and lauzy. It also have disasterous effect to the entire Microsoft's reputation, relevance to the market/industry it once command, and to its overall business performance. Take a look at some of the real fact as of now:
A few months ago, Microsoft has just record first ever decline in its business & sales performance -- among the first occurence that never happen before during the Bill Gates era nor in the long great Microsoft history!
If consumer today dedicate themselves to Microsoft product, then they would end-up with a bunch of lame, lauzy, immitating, sometimes 'annoying', "second-class" product, such as:
Using the clunky & complicated Windows Mobile phone instead of the marketleading Blackberry -- nor iPhone -- as their smartphone.
Using the more boring looking Zune as their MP3 and media player -- instead of the exciting (and market leading) iPod.
Seems the 'Mr. Steve Ballmer' sales effect works great IF Bill Gates is around doing great strategy thinking and great innovation direction at Microsoft. But if Bill Gates is not around doing day to day strategic thinking and doing real stuff innovation at Microsoft, then Mr. Ballmer speech (and developer developer dancing act) is just a dreadful embarrassing boast. Seems the market, the consumer, the developer community, the Microsoft greatest fans today and greatest supporter of the past need Bill Gates (or at least Bill Gates' soul, spirit, engineering persona and sound business+strategist capability) to be back at the helm (and the core central) of Microsoft -- just the way Apple needs Steve Jobs be back at the helm of Apple, a few years back. Then Microsoft might have that greatest chance to be back being relevant, and being on its solid grounded feet once more. http://daringfireball.net/2009/07/microsofts_long_slow_decline
I think they are using the clunky and complicated Windows Mobile phone instead of the market leading Blackberry nor iPhone as their smartphone.
