Although the detail about such capability still a bit 'sketchy' and 'need further study' (read here for more: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200375640#recognize), it is still a great step forward, as the future of e-book reader is now clear: that PDF format is definitely a format that 'all future e-book' will support.
Not clear yet whether future Kindle will support other format such as 'e-Pub', as well as eventually Kindle also will be ready to be more open to other network systems -- outside of Amazon internal Whispernet mechanism -- including Wifi. But it's a great step by step progress and development after all.
