The new browser-based OS will enable instant booting, faster web page loading and super fast javascript engine, secure computer sharing (among multi-user sharing the same computer), chrome apps (available from the google chrome store), and offline working capability.
We'll see how the market in general, and some of the leading PC manufacturers will respond to this new paradigm; whether they would embrace it, and adopt it, whether they would stick with the Windows path instead, or whether they would take "parallel path" (a.k.a embracing both Windows and Google Chrome OS) in defining "future-path" of "next generation" personal computer development.
First Chrome OS device will be available in 2011. While some PC manufacturers might be reluctant to commit to the new, still-to-be-tested viable alternatives, I predict perhaps the "non-PC players" (a.k.a tablet makers, smartphone makers, and even gadget/phone companies -- such as Samsung, China/Taiwan OEMs, and LG, and in some ways Dell) might be among the potential players that will embrace the Google concept, to enter the "next PC" arena.
After all, as Gartner and IDC recently also mentioned that within 18 months, they predict sales of smartphones + tablet will surpass PC. As such, many of "non-PC" players might jump-in into the possible opportunity, and enter these new era of "mobile computing" and "internet computing" innovation by embracing as well as redefining new "fresh look and behaviour" of a "new PC" which embraces the strength of "PC of the past", yet at the same time "redefine" the look of the "next PC" into the future.
All and all, similar to what already happen with smartphone and tablet innovation, such "next PC" transformation probably one day would make making sticking permanently to the old PC concept eventually becomes "dinosauric", ... or in some way "obsolete".
New form factor for PC (or netbooks) might soon be redefined, or "reinvented". Many things still need to be tested. Yet still: exciting possible innovations ahead.
Let's see how the "next PC" would look like and behave in the near future, and lets witness too whether such exciting "next PC" innovations would come from Mac great innovations, traditional Windows environment, emerging initiatives such as Chrome OS, or actually a mixture of them all.
I'm a (next) "PC". :-)
